Leiting Dong is currently the Deputy Dean of Scientific Research of the School of Aeronautic Science & Engineering of Beihang University. He focuses his studies in digital engineering methods for the design and sustainment of aircraft structures. Special interests include fatigue damage tolerance and durability of metal structures, multiscale analysis and design of composite materials structures, structural survivability design and ballistic protection. He has led over 30 research projects funded by various ministries and commissions of China, such as the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation, etc., and by various industry sectors. By far he has published 85 peer-reviewed journal articles in Nature Materials, Matter, AIAA Journal, etc. He won the CMES Outstanding Author Award in 2015, the ICCES Young Investigator Award in 2017, Forbes 30 under 30 Asia in 2018, and the Outstanding Young Investigator Award for Engineering Computing Software in 2022. He serves as associate editor/board member for Computer Modeling for Engineering & Sciences, Chinese Journal of Aeronautics, Acta Aeronautica et Astronautica Sinica, Advances in Aeronautical Science and Engineering etc. He serves as evaluation experts for various ministries and commissions of China and committee members for various academic societies. The outcome of his research, in the forms of structural design methods, modeling & analysis software, and the designed materials and structural components, has been applied in the aviation, automobile, ship engineering industries of China.
