Brief Bio:
Shiro Biwa received the degrees of Bachelor, Master and Doctor of Engineering from Kyoto University in 1990, 1992 and 1995, respectively, in major of mechanical engineering. After working at Kyoto University (1995-1998) and Nagoya University (1998-2004), he was an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Energy Science, Kyoto University (2004-2009) and has been a Professor in the Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University since 2009. His research interests include various topics of solid mechanics, in particular, elastic wave propagation in complex media and ultrasonic methods for materials characterization, nondestructive evaluation and structural health monitoring. He received the JSME Young Engineers Award (1997), the JSMS Award for Promising Researchers (2002), the JSNDI Encouragement Award (2006), etc., and was elected as a Fellow of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2022. He was an Associate Editor of the ASME Journal of Nondestructive Evaluation, Diagnostics and Prognostics of Engineering Systems (2017-2023), the Solid Mechanics and Materials Engineering Editor of the JSME Mechanical Engineering Journal (2020-2023) and has been an Editorial Board member of ZAMM (Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik) since 2017.
